Ultratech believes that when it comes to lowering the environmental impact from energy usage, the best strategy is to do more with what we have.  HBLED’s hold the potential to dramatically reduce world wide energy consumption.  Around a quarter of the world’s energy is used for lighting.  A recent U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) report estimated the conservation savings in the US alone from moving away from traditional lighting technologies at $120 billion at current prices over two decades.

To realize the promise of this technology, HBLED volume-production costs must be lowered by implementing lower-cost, more efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes.  Ultratech’s vital role was recognized by the DOE.  Ultratech was among a select group of technology companies sharing in an over $23 million dollar grant.  Our portion of the award was for us to develop even more productive lithography systems for HBLED manufacturing.  At Ultratech, we are striving to pioneer new energy conservation technologies that will better the world around us.
