Our advanced packaging lithography systems enable lead-free manufacturing processes. In addition, both our AP and LP systems lower electrical consumption by reducing energy leakage in electronic devices at the package and transistor levels, respectively. Both products reflect our belief that the greatest market potential for green technologies is around energy conservation through greater efficiency. In our view, it will prove both easier and more profitable to make current electronic devices more efficient versus developing new ways to generate electricity. Furthermore, in response to the global energy needs, Ultratech developed the Sapphire 100 lithography system for High Brightness LED (HBLED) manufacturing. Specific 2010 improvements include:
- Reset expectations in the LP Market in 2010 by introducing our LSA101 system. In several applications, the LSA101 increases productivity by over 300% and consumes the same or less power than the LSA100. "Relative" power savings per wafer based on improved throughput and increased productivity is estimated to range from 59% to 172% depending upon process parameters. In recognition for their work, our laser annealing team received from the semiconductor equipment trade organization the 2009 SEMI award for North America for the development of leading edge semi-conductor manufacturing processes
- AP Widefield implementation in 2009 contributed to energy consumption reduction via wafer processing efficiency improvements. The AP300 wide field stepper delivers an increase in throughput of over 30%, by using the same or less power than the AP300. This advanced tool has quickly become the 2010 AP equipment standard for leading edge, 300mm semiconductor fabs, helping to reduce the global impact to the environment
- Sapphire 100 development to leverage Ultratech nanotechnology solutions for light-emitting diode (LED) applications. The Sapphire 100 is a new stepper based on the 1000 series platform configured specifically for the requirements of the HB LED lithography market. Sapphire 100 Engineering Alpha system was developed in 2009, with beta site evaluation tool occurring in 2010
